Pastoral Care at The Ridge School is at the heart of everything we do. Our motto, Where Boys Are Known and Grown, reflects our deep commitment to seeing and valuing each boy as an individual. With small classes and dedicated class teachers, we create a nurturing environment where every boy is truly seen, heard and supported.

Pastoral Care and Support Team
Strong support structures and an experienced pastoral care team ensure that each boy is guided with empathy and understanding. We encourage every member of our community to develop their voice and grow into confident, kind and self-aware individuals. We encourage divergent thinking and respect for differing opinions. Dedicated time within our academic programme allows boys to engage in meaningful discussions, empowering them to think critically, explore new perspectives and develop problem-solving skills.
The Ridge Attributes
The Ridge Attributes are a set of values we encourage each boy to aspire to live by. Boys are encouraged to display these values through their actions, words and interactions, both in and out of the classroom. By living out The Ridge Attributes and weaving them into everyday interactions. The values are real and relevant. From the very start of a boy’s journey at The Ridge, these principles are clearly defined, regularly discussed and deeply embedded in school life. Age-appropriate examples bring the attributes to life, and school programmes are designed to make these values visible and meaningful at every stage. Mistakes are a natural part of the learning journey. With the support of our experienced pastoral care team, boys are gently guided and mentored as they grow and learn from their experiences.

The Happy Chappie award
In the Junior Prep, the Happy Chappie award celebrates the way our younger boys bring joy to others through their words and actions. In the Senior Prep, The Ridge Attributes award recognises boys who consistently demonstrate the school’s values and make meaningful contributions to the school community. Every Tuesday, our HEART assemblies provide valuable learning moments, where boys engage with a range of important topics such as empathy, social justice and conflict resolution, encouraging thoughtful reflection and personal growth.
We pride ourselves on creating a community that allows the boys to remain true to who they are and how they are seen each day.
SALT Programme: Sharing and Learning Together
Pivotal to our caring school culture is the SALT programme: Sharing and Learning Together. In this programme, each Grade 7 boy is paired with a group of younger boys from Grades 1 to 6. Through this relaxed and guided setting, strong bonds are formed. These connections help foster a sense of brotherhood, where older boys lead by example and help grow a culture of respect and kindness.
